Mark the MUAC aims to redesign the Middle Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape while ensuring its accuracy. The MUAC tape is used in developing countries to diagnose children with malnutrition. Yet, the adoption of the tool is diminutive; 1 out of 4 mothers trained to use the MUAC tape never screen their child and many more use the MUAC tape only once. In partnership with the International Rescue Committee, we redesigned the existing MUAC tape by introducing a new marking mechanism to increase its usage cadence and improve accessibility. We hypothesize the adoption of the new tape, Mark the MUAC, will lead to more children diagnosed with malnutrition, and thus treated and cured to ultimately lower the total number of children with severe malnutrition.
